Actually, democracy doesn't work. It's broken. We can thank redlining for that. And the justice system. And the electoral college. And the failure of our government to levy tax on giant corporations who fund their election campaigns. And, and, and.
That's why people protest. Because they're sick of the system not working and they want to rebuild it into a better one. History--the history of this country--is founded upon and shaped by protests.
