I Dreamed

I would not know where to begin

Remembering you

After years of careful forgetting.

Should it be the soft press

Of lips to fingertips

The words hurled from our mouths

In the splendid

Colors of a bruise, or

That crazy song we used to dance to?

Maybe this: how you looked

Away from me

All the times I knew you were lying

As if the sun were a bit too low

And ever in your eyes.

Regardless, I dreamed

About you last night and it wasn’t

Any of these things.

You were only

Glancing in my window

Not like a thief, but innocently

As if unsure there’d be anyone home.
