I enjoyed this piece and the optimistic, defiant spirit in which it's written. However, as a white person I humbly submit to you that my existence has been and still is quite privileged. And that the protests are serving to wake us (white people) up to that privilege and galvanize us to donate, vote, and dialogue differently than we otherwise might have. I'm ashamed of the privilege that has allowed me to live differently than the vast majority of my black counterparts, some of whom are my friends and family members. I had no idea until recently (though I considered myself "woke") that we lived in parallel worlds where the justice system, banking system, school system, political system and police system indeed separated us out and treated us differently. I "knew" it on one level, but this recent awakening has opened me to the point that I now see it is necessary to take the system apart completely if we are ever to see true equality.
