Lots of good reminders in here. I just finished writing a memoir, so a few of them don’t apply to me — since I’m not trying to teach anyone how to do anything, per se. But the instructions not to repeat myself, to keep a clear story arc moving, to not give everything away up front — these are all relevant to memoir. In fact I think memoir should read like fiction, though I’m not sold on the idea of superimposing the hero’s journey over the top of it (as many writing coaches seem biased to do). Any thoughts on that?
