There’s absolutely no evidence that a normal, healthy adult needs to consume eight glasses of water a day. Unless you’re working out, or running a marathon — which I daresay the average office worker isn’t doing on a daily basis — four or five should do just fine. Unless you’re thirsty. In which case you should drink more. That’s what thirst is for.
Why the discrepancy? Health experts, such as those in the article below, maintain that we get hydration from other liquids like tea, juice, smoothies and coffee; and foods such as fruits and vegetables.
If your diet doesn’t include any of those things but consists only of fried food and soda, AND you’re sitting all the time, then yeah, I guess sitting is the new smoking. In that case water is a moot point.
