Yes, they might have been. You might have suffered less or you might have suffered in a different way. I wonder the same of myself — diagnosed relatively late in life, at age 40. How many relationships did I ruin, how many jobs did I lose to this thing? But then would I ever have traveled to the places I did, took the risks I took, learned what I learned? I hate that I made others suffer. But all we can do is admit our mistakes and make reparations. Maybe that’s one of the most difficult demands of love, going back and saying you made a mistake and you’re sorry. Then moving forward, as you’re doing. You grow so much through that. And you set that example for your kids. Not enough people have that skill, to say they’re sorry and accept forgiveness. So that’s really something.
